Shasta County District Attorney Stephen S. Carlton announced today that his office, along with the District Attorneys’ Offices of Fresno, San Joaquin, and Yolo Counties reached a settlement in a consumer protection case against Johnson & Johnson and Neutrogena. The case concerned alleged product packaging violations in the sale of over-the-counter and health/beauty products by the companies.

Without admitting any wrongdoing, Johnson & Johnson and Neutrogena, as part of the settlement, agreed to a pay a total of $506,000.00 in civil penalties and investigative costs. The companies also agreed to take steps to assure that future packaging of their products are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
The matter was prosecuted locally for Shasta County, by Deputy District Attorney Anand “Lucky” Jesrani of the Consumer Protection Unit.
The Shasta County Department of Agriculture/Weights & Measures also assisted in the prosecutors’ investigation.
