Armed Robbery at Redding Dutch Bros.; Suspect Captured

On August 4, 2014 at 11:48 am, an employee at Dutch Bros (3015 South Market St) called to report an armed robbery that just occurred.

A lone male suspect pointed what appeared to be an unknown type handgun wrapped in plastic at the cashier. The suspect demanded money, at which time the cashier allowed him to take an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register.

The suspect was described as a white male adult wearing a hoodie style jacket and a red baseball cap. He fled on foot, southeast from the business. Video surveillance later revealed that the suspect was also wearing a red bandana around his neck.

A patrol officer checking the area saw a red bandana draped over the back fence of a residence on Sporting Ct, which is a short distance from the scene of the robbery, and in the same direction as the suspect fled. The occupant of the residence, identified as Casey John Lyons, age 21, of Redding, was found to have a felony warrant charging a violation of probation.

Lyons refused to exit the residence when officers surrounded his house. He was eventually persuaded to give himself up after several conversations with an officer over the phone.

A search of Lyon’s residence revealed clothing worn during the commission of the robbery. It was also apparent that Lyons had shaved his facial hair after the robbery.

Lyons was booked at Shasta County Jail for robbery.
