Purse Snatching Subject Turns Self In

On February 16th, 2014, a purse snatch robbery occurred in the parking lot of Target, 1280 Dana Drive in Redding. The victim, 57 year old Sylvanie Lee Vines of Redding, reported that a white male suspect in his mid 20’s grabbed her purse from her shoulder as she was walking from her vehicle in the Target parking lot. The suspect and victim briefly struggled over the purse, but the suspect was ultimately able to wrestle it from the victim’s grasp. The male suspect then entered a white Mitsubishi Eclipse and fled the scene.

Jeremiah James Woolf, 36 years of Redding, was interviewed early on in the investigation but refused to admit his involvement.

On August 1st, 2014, Woolf contacted his parole agent and said he had something weighing on his conscience that he wanted to talk about. Woolf indicated that he was responsible for the robbery.

Woolf was interviewed by Special Service Agent John Harrison from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, who is assigned to the Redding Police Department.

Woolf confessed to committing the robbery to help finance his drug habit. He disposed of the victim’s purse in the Sacramento River and attempted to use her ATM card at the former Raley’s Supermarket on Hartnell Avenue.
