Police K-9 Routs Domestic Violence Suspect

In the early morning hours (0413 hrs) of Friday, 8-1-14, Deputies were dispatched to the 22000 block of Venzke Road in Cottonwood, for the report of an in progress domestic violence. The Victim, a twenty year old female stayed on the telephone while deputies were en-route. The Victim was hysterical while on the telephone and told dispatchers her boyfriend, Ronnie Lowe had hit her several times. Just after gaining the information about the victim being injured the telephone was disconnected.

When Deputies arrived at the residence, the Victim was inside the residence with visible injuries to her head. The Victim told deputies Lowe was intoxicated and had left the residence by going out the back door just prior to their arrival. Due to the crime of domestic violence and the possibility of Lowe contacting and possibly injuring other people in the area, Deputy Gerry Maul utilized his K-9 partner Larus to assist in the search for Lowe.

After several minutes of searching the area behind the residence, Larus gave a positive alert to Lowe being behind a gate in the pasture or the canal. Deputy Maul gave announcements to Lowe telling him Larus was going to be utilized if he did not give himself up. When Lowe refused to acknowledge Deputy Maul, Larus was sent into the pasture area where they believed Lowe was hiding.

Larus located Lowe hiding in some black berry bushes in the canal area of the property. Following Larus’ apprehension of Lowe, he was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries. Lowe was later booked into the Shasta County Jail.
