On 07/20/14 at approximately 0030 hours, detectives from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office were requested to assist in the investigation of a possible life threatening in custody arrest, per the Multi-Agency Critical Incident Protocol. Further investigation revealed Matthew Robinson was transported from Enloe Hospital in Chico, to Restpadd Psychiatric Health Facility in Redding, per 5150 of the welfare and institutions code. Upon arrival at the facility Matthew Robinson begun to exhibit aggressive and irrational behavior. Officers from the Redding Police Department were summoned to assist in securing Matthew Robinson for transport to a local hospital. Upon removing Matthew Robinson from the transport vehicle, Robinson immediately assaulted one of the Redding Police Department Officers by punching him in the face. Matthew Robinson was taken to the ground and continued to resist until taken into custody with the assistance of additional officers. Shortly thereafter it became apparent that Matthew Robinson was having some type of medical distress and lifesaving procedures (CPR) were administered by officers.
Matthew Robinson was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, where he has been under constant treatment for his medical condition. On Sunday, July 27, 2014, at approximately 0400 hours, Michael Robinson passed away. On Monday, July 28, 2014 an autopsy was performed on Matthew Robinson. Present during the autopsy were members of the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office, Shasta County Grand Jury, Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the Redding Police Department. At this time the cause of death is listed as undetermined pending further investigation. This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
