Female Transient Attacks Loma St. Resident With Ice Pick

On Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at approximately 12:10 AM, Redding Police officers responded to the 600 block of Loma Street regarding a physical disturbance where someone had possibly been stabbed.

The investigation revealed a female transient, Britnee Kemp, 27 years, had responded to the listed location and knocked on the front door for an unknown reason.

The resident, Leon Devoid, 67 years, didn’t know Kemp and told her to leave the property. Kemp became aggressive and upon leaving tore down Devoid’s address sign in his front yard.

A short time later, Devoid heard a loud noise at the front side of his residence. He opened the front door to see that Kemp had thrown a large concrete brick at his front window in an apparent attempt to smash out the window.

Devoid went out his front door to stop Kemp from doing any damage to the window. Kemp began to stab at Devoid with an ice pick several times while verbally threatening to kill him.

Devoid was able to avoid being stabbed and eventually forced Kemp to the ground where she then bit him on the chest area. Devoid kept Kemp pinned to the ground until the police arrived.

Kemp was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and battery.

From Redding Police Department press release.
