On February 18, 2014 at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the police department lobby regarding a battery in progress.

Officers located the suspect inside the lobby of the police department and detained him.

The investigation revealed Brandon Matthew Level, 23 years old from Redding, arrived at the lobby for unknown reasons. Level struck a 49-year-old Redding man with a fist from behind, causing the victim to nearly fall to the ground. This attack was unprovoked and the victim had no prior dealings with Level.

The victim said he was at the RPD standing in a line with several other witnesses, waiting to speak to a receptionist, when he was struck by Level.

After striking the victim, Level walked a few steps away, laid on the floor and waited for officers who arrived immediately.

The victim requested charges be filed on Level for battery and Level was arrested. Officers learned Level had two outstanding felony warrants for his arrest. Level is also an AB 109 parolee. Level was uncooperative with officers and gave no explanation for his actions.

Level was booked into the Shasta County jail for battery, two felony bench warrants, resisting arrest and a violation of his parole conditions. The victim was shaken from the incident, but otherwise uninjured.
