On September 4, at approximately 7:40 p.m., deputies responded to the area of Snoopy Rock, State Highway 299 in Ingot, for a gunshot victim.
A Bay Area couple, both in their 50s, were on their honeymoon, traveling eastbound on Highway 299.
The wife, who was driving, pulled over for her husband to use the restroom. While the husband was outside the car, he heard what he thought to be a loud motorcycle pass his location, heading westbound. As the husband emerged from the bushes he observed a white male holding a pistol, standing behind the couple’s vehicle.
The wife was in the car looking at her laptop computer, so she was unaware of the suspect behind the car. Her husband immediately took action, confronted the suspect and yelled a warning to his wife. A short struggle ensued in which the suspect fired one round into the man’s chest. The suspect then fled the scene westbound on Highway 299 on his motorcycle.
The Bay Area man was treated and released the following day for his wound.
The Sheriff’s Office is seeking any information from the public that would lead to the identification of the suspect.
Officers believe that robbery was the motive in this case and that the suspect is a local resident of Shasta County, possibly the Intermountain area. The suspect is described as a white male, 5’8” to 5’9” – thin build, blond hair, and a tattoo on side of his neck, (unknown right or left – or design). He was wearing a black T-shirt, and no helmet. The suspect was last seen riding a black Harley Davidson-type motorcycle.
Due to the aggressive nature of this incident and danger to the public, Secret Witness of Shasta County is offering up to $5,000.00 for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the suspect.
