At 11 a.m. Wednesday the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Department of Public Works, Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol, will open a section of Highway 44 in Shingletown for eastbound traffic only – and only for the residents of Shingletown.

At 12:45 Wednesday Caltrans announced that State Route 44 in Shasta County was open to eastbound and westbound traffic between Shingletown and Viola.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking that residents return to the appropriate areas where they reside. Those that try to access the area

will only cause undue traffic congestion and delay the possibility of further areas being opened. The Sheriff’s Office is currently working on plans with Cal-Fire to open the remaining sections of Highway 44.

Highway 44 leading east to Airport Way will be opened. That includes all roads leading north and south off Highway 44 at Airport Way. All roads east of Airport Way will remain closed until further notice.

All private roads and Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) roads east of Airport Way are closed until further notice.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is asking everyone that lives east of Airport Way to please stay out of the area and do not try to access your home. The attempt to enter the area will only cause traffic congestion, confusion and delays to the residents trying to access the open areas of Shingletown.

The road closures at Wilson Hill and Rock Creek Road remain closed due to the active and unstable fire in Tehama County. The road closure at Wilson Hill and Grace Lake will remained closed. Cal-Fire is using these areas to access the fire on the south side of Shingletown.

All dirt roads and SPI roads are closed south of Shingletown. Please refrain from trying to enter this area as this will only delay fire suppression in the area.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to thank the citizens and the public for their patience regarding the road closures. The closures are a necessity and an obligation of the Sheriff’s Office to keep everyone safe from the impeding fires that invaded the areas south of Shingletown.

For additional information regarding the current fire situation, call 225-2510. To report a crime or any type of emergency, the number is always 911. If you need to contact the Sheriff’s Office for a non-emergency incident, call 245-6540.
