Shasta Lake man hospitalized with skull fractures; Redding man arrested for the assault at Bert ‘n Ernie’s
On Friday, July 13, 2012, at approximately 1:15 AM, officers from the Redding Police Department responded to 825 Industrial Avenue, “Bert-N-Ernies”, for a reported assault.
Upon arrival, Officer Veilleaux located Ryan Frost-McKilop, 21 years old, of Shasta Lake. McKilop had apparently been knocked unconscious and had a head injury. He was transported via ambulance to Shasta Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The investigation revealed McKilop had approached a female inside the bar and struck up a conversation with her. Her boyfriend, Chester Brundage, 23 years old of Redding, saw the two talking and he became angry.
Witnesses stated Brundage walked over to McKilop and without warning began punching him in the head. McKilop dropped to the floor, unconscious. Brundage fled the location in a vehicle driven by a friend. Witnesses described the vehicle and officers began looking for it.
Officer Provencio located the vehicle near Freebridge Street and Parkview Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Brundage was located and arrested for the assault.
Later in the morning the Redding Police Department received notice that McKilop had several skull fractures and was subsequently transferred to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.
Brundage was booked into the Shasta County Jail for felony assault.

Stolen vehicle found in grocery store parking lot, then returned to owner following police chase that ends in suspect’s collision, arrest
On July 10 at 7:53 p.m, Corporal Rex Berry was on patrol in the Safeway parking lot, which is located at 2275 Pine Street in Redding.
Corporal Berry ran a license plate check on a 1999 Nissan Frontier pick-up that was driving out of the lot. SHASCOM dispatch reported back to him that this vehicle was stolen yesterday from a residential neighborhood in Redding.
The driver and sole occupant fled through downtown streets at speeds in excess of fifty miles per hour. After running through two stop sign controlled intersections and two signal light controlled intersections, the driver of the stolen vehicle collided with a parked pick-up truck while driving the wrong way on southbound Pine Street, just north of Eureka Way.
The suspect fled southbound across Eureka Way, into an alley behind the Stardust Motel. Corporal Berry was able to take the suspect into custody after the suspect tripped and fell while trying to run from officers.
Both the stolen vehicle and the unoccupied parked pick-up truck sustained minor damage as a result of the collision. The stolen vehicle was returned to the owner.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Damien Joseph White, age 33, of Redding. He had an outstanding felony warrant charging a violation of parole terms. White was booked at the Shasta County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading a police officer in a vehicle, the arrest warrant, and an enhancement for his participation in a criminal street gang.

On July 9 at approximately 7:37 am officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the west end of Harlan Drive in regards to a suspicious circumstances call where a male adult subject was spray painting a motorcycle while on the street. Upon arrival, officers attempted to stop the motorcycle (2000 Triumph) that was later determined to be driven by Duane Robert Walczak, 26 year old transient.
The motorcycle that Walczak was driving was determined to be a reported stolen on this same date. Walczak fled from officers at a high rate of speed and crashed the motorcycle at the intersection of Harlan Drive and Quartz Hill Road after hitting a curb.
After crashing the motorcycle, Walczak fled on foot and made entry into the Oakdale Heights care facility at 101 Quartz Hill Road by breaking out a window. He was quickly apprehended by responding officers. Walczak was arrested and booked at the Shasta County Jail for receiving stolen property, reckless driving, driving on a suspended driver’s license and nine outstanding warrants.

Parolee evades RPD officers; Car chase, resistence, lands parolee in hospital, then jail
On July 7 Officer Stoker of the Redding Police Department was attempting to locate Joseph Manuel Oyoque, 32 years of Redding. Oyoque was a parolee at large with a violent criminal history. Officer Stoker observed Oyoque driving a vehicle northbound on Churn Creek Road and immediately requested additional units. Before additional units arrived, Oyoque fled in his vehicle and a pursuit ensued.
Oyoque fled east on Cypress Avenue, south on Shasta View Drive and west on Rancho Road at 60 to 70 miles per hour. The pursuit terminated at the intersection of Churn Creek Road and Victor Avenue when Oyoque’s vehicle left the roadway. He fled on foot to the area of 8378 Rancho Road, where he was confronted by officers. Oyoque violently resisted and was taken into custody after a prolonged struggle.
Oyoque was transported to a local hospital for treatment and booked into the Shasta County Jail for felony evading with an enhancement, felony assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and a parole violation.

Man arrested after Kmart break-in
On July 6th, 2012 at approximately 11:51 P.M., officers from the Redding Police Department responded to Kmart at 2685 Hilltop Drive in Redding, regarding a burglary in progress. Officers arrived and found the front glass door on the west side of the business smashed.
As officers were establishing a perimeter around the business, the suspect exited the west side of the business and started to flee. The suspect was given commands to stop warned that a police K9 was about to be deployed. The suspect saw the K9 and immediately surrendered.
The suspect was identified as 36 year old Todd Richard Kolesar, originally of Phoenix, Arizona, but now a transient in the Redding area. Kolesar was found to be in possession of approximately $160.00 in merchandise stolen from Kmart.
Kolesar was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail for burglary and possession of stolen property. His bail is currently set at $10,000.00. ~ From Redding Police Department press release###
Bomb squad investigates suspicious found object; parts of Court Street closed until item was deemed harmless
On July 6, 2012, at 8:32 a.m. officers from the Redding Police Department responded to Maxim Physical Therapy, 2343 Court Street, regarding a suspicious device. Employees of the business reported finding a stereo under a bench near the front door of the business and the owner was unknown.
The Shasta County Bomb Squad responded to the scene. The item was similar in nature to several actual destructive devices found in the Southwest United States. The item was x-rayed and it was determined the item was not a destructive device. The item turned out to be a portable power station used for roadside emergencies. The item was booked as found property.
During the incident, the south end of Court Street was closed for approximately two hours.

On July 5 at 4:50 pm, Redding Police officers responded to a physical fight behind Gironda’s Restaurant at 1100 Center Street. The reporting citizen advised that one of the people involved in the fight had been stabbed.
Officers arrived in the area and located the victim at Hinkle’s Market. The victim was identified Robert Hunter, a 38 year old transient. Hunter suffered two stab wounds to the head and was bleeding profusely. Hunter was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Hunter was in stable condition at the time of the press release.
Corporal Rex Berry was responding to the stabbing call and observed a person running in the alley behind Taco Bell on Market Street. The person was contacted and identified as Creig Dayton Reed, 40 years of Redding. Reed had a large amount of blood on his clothing and hands.
Creig Reed was identified by a witness as being the person who stabbed the victim. Reed was arrested and transported to the Redding Police Investigations Division. Investigators interviewed Reed and he admitted to stabbing the victim during the fight.
Reed told Investigators the fight stemmed from an earlier altercation at the Americana Lodge in Redding. Reed told Investigators he hid the knife in a tree after stabbing the victim. Investigators searched the area described by Reed and the knife was recovered.
Creig Dayton Reed was booked into the Shasta County Jail for attempted murder.
