One Man Stabbed in Downtown Redding, Another Arrested

On July 5 at 4:50 pm, Redding Police officers responded to a physical fight behind Gironda’s Restaurant at 1100 Center Street. The reporting citizen advised that one of the people involved in the fight had been stabbed.

Officers arrived in the area and located the victim at Hinkle’s Market. The victim was identified Robert Hunter, a 38 year old transient. Hunter suffered two stab wounds to the head and was bleeding profusely. Hunter was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Hunter was in stable condition at the time of the press release.

Corporal Rex Berry was responding to the stabbing call and observed a person running in the alley behind Taco Bell on Market Street. The person was contacted and identified as Creig Dayton Reed, 40 years of Redding. Reed had a large amount of blood on his clothing and hands.

Creig Reed was identified by a witness as being the person who stabbed the victim. Reed was arrested and transported to the Redding Police Investigations Division. Investigators interviewed Reed and he admitted to stabbing the victim during the fight.

Reed told Investigators the fight stemmed from an earlier altercation at the Americana Lodge in Redding. Reed told Investigators he hid the knife in a tree after stabbing the victim. Investigators searched the area described by Reed and the knife was recovered.

Creig Dayton Reed was booked into the Shasta County Jail for attempted murder.
