Feb. 3 Drive-Through Tri-Tip Dinner to Benefit Cancer Patient

(Update: Please note that the correct date for this event is next Friday, Feb. 3. We apologize for any confusion, but hope this gives everyone even more time to plan for the dinner.)

Michele Hughes, dental hygienist and single mom, was diagnosed with colon cancer in September.

Redding dentist Gary Howland is hosting a drive-thru tri-tip dinner to benefit his dental hygienist, Michele Hughes, a single mother of two college-aged daughters who is recovering from treatment for colon cancer.

The dinner, including tri-tip grilled by Market Street Steakhouse chef Jason Danley, beans, garlic bread and a brownie, will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. Fri. Feb. 3 at Howland’s office at 2275 Park Marina Drive.

Tickets, which must be purchased by Thursday, are $10 each or $35 for a family of four. Tickets can be purchased at Market Street Steakhouse or at Howland’s office. Call 244-4260 for details.

All proceeds from the dinner will fund a North Valley Bank account opened by Hughes’s mother to help pay for the Palo Cedro resident’s massive medical bills.

Hughes was diagnosed with cancer last September following a routine colonoscopy and was unable to work after starting a seven-week regimen of chemotherapy and radiation.

Some of Hughes’s colleagues, including fellow graduates of Shasta College’s dental hygiene program, have volunteered to cover her shifts and donate that day’s wages to her. Hughes said a recent scan indicated she is now cancer free and she hopes to begin working part-time sometime in February.

What a tremendously caring community we live in. God's blessings on each. Especially Michelle.

    To my Redding friends:

Here is a local opportunity to make your care felt. Only too often we are called upon to GIVE to some association or group geographically far away from here and if/when we do we have no assurance that it will go to that person/group or to the administration of that organization which is asking for the donations. Since I sincerely do believe, "Charity begins at home" here is an opportunity to help someone locally who is very much in need, not only of financial help but moral support from her own community. Every penny of every contribution goes directly to this lady in need.

(And they said, "When did we see you hungry and feed you, when did we see you thirsty and give you drink and when did we see you naked and gave to you clothes?" Jesus said to them, "When you have done it unto one of the least of these, my children, you have done it unto me. Enter into my kingdom, you good and faithful servants!")

    Thanx for your help

JUST A LOVING REMINDER TO EACH OF YOU WHO CARE SO MUCH FOR THIS LADY…. The dinner event is Feb. 3rd. Not this Friday! Please come out to support! God bless you!

    • Are you sure, Lori? I got this information from a press release written by someone who usually gets his info correct. (I've left a message for him asking, too.)

If you're right, I'll post a correction update. Thanks for being on your toes, Lori. 🙂

Lori is correct. The dinner is Friday, Feb. 3. The deadline to purchase tickets, however, is this Thursday (Jan. 26).

As the author of this press release, I sincerely apologize for the confusion. I also want to thank one and all for their kind and compassionate responses to Michele's plight.

Hope to see some of you on Friday the 3rd.

OK, just spoke to Dr. Howland's office. The deadline has been extended until Monday….because of the great demand for tickets. Their office is CLOSED Friday (1/27).

The address is 2775 Park Marina, not 2275 Park Marina. Found out the hard way!!
