Rain, Alcohol Contribute to Eastside Road Rollover

James Charles Bailey

On Monday, October 3, 2011, at 5:46 p.m., the Redding Police Department received multiple reports of a rollover collision on Eastside Road, south of South Bonnyview Road. Officers found a white Toyota pickup on its roof in the ditch along the west side of the roadway. The pickup had suffered major damage.

The investigation determined James Bailey, 52 years of Anderson, had been driving the pickup southbound on Eastside Road. It had been raining and the road was still wet. Bailey lost control of the pickup after driving through a curve in the roadway. The pickup left the road, went airborne, and landed on its front end and roof. No other vehicle was involved.

Bailey was wearing his seatbelt. He was able to escape the pickup and had only minor injuries. The investigation determined Bailey had been driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. He was also found in possession of contraband. Bailey was arrested for DUI, possession of brass knuckles, being a felon in possession of pepper spray, and possession of methamphetamine. He was booked at the Shasta County jail.
