The suspect driver was later identified as Tyler Schweizer, 26 years of Redding.

On Friday, August 26, 2011, at 11:56 p.m., officers developed information that Schweizer was hiding inside of an apartment at 1417 Orange Avenue in the City of Redding. Officers confirmed Schweizer was inside the apartment and he refused to surrender to officers, barricading himself inside a bedroom. Redding Police Canine Canon was sent into the apartment and found Schweitzer hiding in a back bedroom between a mattress and box spring. He was apprehended by canine Canon and taken into custody by officers.

Schweizer was booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of felony evading, felony assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of narcotics for sale and outstanding warrants.
