What: “Creating Healthy Habits” essay or video contest
Who: KIXE is offering prizes for families who share how they create healthy habits in eating, reading, parenting or spending time together

KIXE has a very strong interest in promoting children’s issues including health & literacy. In our new “Do You Know How Our Kids Are Doing?” KIXE-TV spots, people can gain valuable statistics from kidsdata.org. (A program funded by the Lucile Packard Foundation.) KIXE was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Lucile Packard Foundation that has helped keep our Educational Outreach Program going strong with our Creating Healthy Habits series.
Families are invited to enter a new KIXE family contest entitled, “Creating Healthy Habits.” This contest is open to residents from KIXE’s local viewing areas; including Shasta, Glenn, Butte, Siskiyou, Modoc, Plumas/Lassen, and Trinity Counties.
During this contest, families will submit their entries, in either an essay style or in a DVD format, showing how their family creates healthy habits. These habits can involve health and nutrition, along with best parenting practices, such as reading with your children and spending quality time. A panel of judges will be formed from the top sponsors of this contest, including: KIXE, Turtle Bay, the YMCA, the Redding Library, and Need 2 Speed. Families with at least one child between the ages of 3-12 are eligible to enter, and a strong area for judging will be on creativity.

KIXE anticipates awarding a grand prize, along with a first, second and third place winning family, (the actual number of top prizes will be determined by both the number and quality of entries) the top families will be featured on KIXE-TV in a “Creating Healthy Habits” TV Spot, along with receiving a prize assortment from local businesses, including Turtle Bay Exploration Park, the Shasta Family YMCA, Need 2 Speed, U-Top It, CrossFit Redding & PIMANA (located inside CrossFit Redding), Trader Joe’s, Subway, Oasis Fun Center, Jamba Juice, Water Works Park, and La Cabana restaurant.
