Siskiyou County’s Pioneer Bridge Reopened

The Pioneer Bridge on SR 263 in Siskiyou County has re-opened.

Near Yreka, the Pioneer Bridge had been closed since Monday, June 6, 2011. The closure was necessary to facilitate the partial removal and replacement and painting of the bridge.

Motorists had been redirected to Interstate 5 to bypass the closed area, adding approximately four miles and two minutes to commute times. Changeable Message Signs and the Highway Advisory Radio AM 1610 were activated during the closure, alerting motorists to the construction and detour.

Access for property owners within the closure had been provided, but all through traffic was detoured via Interstate 5.

The Pioneer Bridge construction project was a $1.98 million undertaking handled by F.D. Thomas Construction of Central Point, Oregon.
