Mt Shasta Holds Art on the Block, Musicians’ Swap Meet, Jam

What: Art on the Block
When: Saturday (Aug. 6), from 12-6 p.m.
Where: 400 Block of North Mt. Shasta Blvd, Mt. Shasta, CA 96067

Art on the Block is scheduled for Saturday, August 6, 2011 from noon to 6 p.m., and will utilize the entire 400 block of North Mt. Shasta Blvd., near the Siskiyou Arts Council Gallery. The Musicians’ Swap Meet will be integrated with the art offerings, which will enable musicians to buy, sell, and trade instruments, gear, sheet music, recordings, media players, and any other music-related items. There will also be a Downtown Art Walk, offering tours of galleries located in the downtown Mount Shasta area, as well as art displays in windows of other beautiful historic buildings.

In the center of the festival will be the “Roulette Jam,” featuring high quality local musicians assigned by a blind drawing to jam with other musicians. They are not told whom they will be playing with until the time of the jam. This feature brings together musicians from teens to seasoned veterans, and offers a very unique opportunity for these musicians to network with, and support each other.

The Siskiyou Arts Council’s mission is to value creativity, promote education and excite our community’s participation in the visual, performing and literary arts. Siskiyou Arts Council’s Art on the Block and Musicians Swap Meet is designed to promote this mission, as well as to offer something meaningful for every art and music lover who visits the event.

Other entertainment will include activities for children, belly dance performances and street entertainers.

The Siskiyou Arts Council will be selling raffle tickets. Prizes include lift tickets to the Mt. Shasta Ski Park (2 prizes of 2 tickets each) and a one-year membership to the Mt. Shasta Wellness Center (including 4 facilities).

Vendor applications are currently available at the Siskiyou Arts Council Gallery, or can be obtained by calling Lauri Sturdivant at (530) 938-0130. Vendors will need to provide their own canopy. If you need assistance obtaining a canopy, please inquire at the time of application.
