Weather Discussion: Our mild July weather will be ending this week, and our normal summer weather will be returning. We will start the week off with another upper level low pressure area off the coast. The southern end of this system will brush the north end of the state Monday and Tuesday. Most of the clouds and showers and thunderstorms associated with this system will be to the west and north of Redding, but there could be isolated showers and thunderstorms in the Redding area Monday afternoon and Tuesday.
Monday and the first half of Tuesday we will be partly cloudy with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. Wednesday (the 20th) through Sunday (the 24th), we will have sunny skies with a warming trend. High temperatures Wednesday will be in the low to mid 90s and in the upper 90s by Friday and Saturday, and then 100 to 103 on Sunday.
Extended Weather Outlook, July 25 through July 31: A large high pressure area will be over the western U.S. We will have sunny skies and above normal temperatures with Redding’s high temperatures over 100. We could reach the 110 mark around the 28th or 29th.

Chris Fontana, aka The Old Forecaster, started his career as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento. After four years as a weather officer in the U.S. Air Force, Chris transferred to the NWS office in Redding, where he was the meteorologist in charge from 1976 until the office closed in 1996. From 1996 until his 2005 retirement, he was the meteorologist in charge of the U.S. Forest Service Predictive Service Unit. Chris and his wife Jane have been married over 40 years and he works as a window covering installer in her business, Westwood Window Coverings.
