Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is inviting volunteers to help with a trail construction project in celebration of National Trails Day on Saturday, June 4, 2011. The workday will run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and will complete a section of the Clear Creek Canal Trail that is being realigned to minimize erosion and protect the pristine waters of Orofino Creek.
Volunteers are asked to meet at 8:00 a.m. at the Mt. Shasta Mine Loop Trail parking lot, which is located on Paige Bar Road, 1.3 miles south of Whiskeytown Dam. Sign-ups for the work project will continue until 8:30, after which volunteers will receive a safety brief and a short instructional period from park staff. The worksite is a short hike form the trailhead. Volunteers should be prepared for hot weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring work gloves, sun block, and a reusable water bottle. Water will be provided.
