Shasta County’s Plant a Row for the Hungry campaign kicks off Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 9 a.m. at the Redding Certified Farmers’ Market, 777 Cypress Ave. in Redding.

The Plant a Row campaign was launched locally in 2010 by the Shasta Food Group, a coalition of food pantries, as an effort to increase healthy food donations to local food pantries. Plant a Row for the Hungry encourages gardeners to plant an extra row of vegetables, fruit or cooking herbs and donate the surplus directly to one of the participating food pantries in Shasta County.
