1/15/2011 Suicidal Male Subject Armed with a Handgun

On January 15, 2011 at approximately 4:35 p.m., Officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the Mercy Hospital in regards to a suicidal male subject armed with a handgun while in the emergency room.  The initial report indicated that the male subject threatened to shoot himself and others in the emergency room area.  Upon arrival, officers arrested Jesse M. Whitlow, 24 years of Anderson, Ca.. Officers recovered a loaded 22 ca. revolver in Whitlow’s vehicle and numerous 22 ca. rounds in his pants pocket.  Whitlow at the scene indicated that he used the gun to get the attention of the hospital staff to express his desire for mental health treatment.   The investigation revealed that Whitlow did in fact bring the handgun into the emergency room waiting area.  Whitlow eventually gave the handgun to an associate who secured it in a vehicle.

Whitlow was arrested for possession of a concealed loaded weapon, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, ex-felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a concealed loaded weapon in a vehicle, and resisting arrest.  At the time of this press release, Whitlow was being held at the Shasta County Jail with a bail of $25,000.
