This event is part of an ongoing series of forums presented by the Women’s Fund to discuss major issues facing women and families in our area. Our panelists will be:
Marta McKenzie Director, Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency
Hon. Molly Bigelow Presiding Judge, Juvenile Dependency, CA Superior Court
Lisa Tange Deputy Director, San Diego Field Office, Casey Family Programs
Denise Ratliff College student and former foster youth
When a child’s family situation is considered unsafe, the child is removed from the home and placed in foster care. Decisions about taking children from their homes, where they are to live, their day-to-day care and supervision, and when reunification with family members is appropriate or adoption preferable are difficult and affected by many factors.
Shasta County has among the highest rates of both foster care placement and adoption in California.
Join us as local speakers describe the challenges in our area, as well as the financial cost, the effects on children, and the social impact on our families and community. Staff from Casey Family Programs – a national foundation focused solely on foster care and improving the child welfare system – will discuss national trends, relevant research, and effective program models. A former foster youth will share her perspective.
The Women’s Fund addresses persistent challenges facing women and families in the greater Redding area, and seeks solutions through collective philanthropy.
