What: A Night of Worship and Information About Mission Work in Kenya
When: Friday (Oct. 29), 7 p.m.
Where: Little Country Church, 873 Canby Road, Redding
Living Room Ministries International is hosting the evening’s events. Juli McGowan, a 1997 graduate of Shasta High School, will be speaking about the work she started called Living Room Ministries International in Kenya, Africa. Miss McGowan has her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Azusa Pacific University. She also earned a master’s degree in International Medicine from California State University L.A. and is a licensed Family Nurse Practitioner. She is currently doing post graduate work in palliative care from Oxford University while in Kenya. Juli has served as a full time medical missionary in Africa for the past six years. She is a specialist in the treatment of infectious diseases and HIV. She has been involved in clinic work, the establishment of two 96-bed orphans’ homes, and community outreach to those affected or infected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and other life-threatening diseases in the rural areas of Northwest Kenya.

The Living Room is currently constructing a 26-bed palliative care hospice hospital. It will have an eight-bed wing for children and infants, an eight-bed wing for women, an eight-bed wing for men, and two isolation rooms. The goal is to bring healing through family and community support training, medical care, palliative care, and prayer. However, for those who do not respond to medical care, it will be a care facility where no one will die alone.
The music worship team for the evening will include Joshua McGowan, who is a 1999 graduate of Shasta High School. He has earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Azusa Pacific. Joshua is joined by two of his friends from Los Angeles: Jacob Park, who is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and worship leader, and Bryan Taylor, who is a percussionist. Joining these three will be Luke Pettengill, who is a graduate of Foothill High School and a 2010 graduate of Simpson University. Luke is a singer, song writer, keyboardist and worship leader.
