This year’s luncheon will feature critically acclaimed author, artist and speaker, Heidi Marble.
On April 12, 2000, Heidi Marble faced her own mortality at the age of 34. She defiantly fought her way back from the dead after being diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer, a cancer so rare that most have never even heard of this deadly disease. Ten years later she is transformed and invigorated to take her message to the millions whose lives are touched by cancer. Her book, “Waiting for Wings” is more than a story about cancer. It is a story about love; love of a child, love of a couple and an unflinching love of life.
Her new book, “Taking Flight,” will launch in October 2010. This book is a guide to help those diagnosed with cancer and their supporters. “Taking Flight” is a compilation of humor, relevant expert advice, stories of hope and courage, thoughts on nutrition, spirituality and exceptional survivorship. The reader will feel more empowered to cope with the issues surrounding cancer. Some of the contributors include Bernie Siegel, MD, author of “Love, Medicine and Miracles,” and Steve Arterburn, founder and chairman of New Life Ministries and “Women of Faith.”
Heidi is actively involved with public speaking and has made several television and radio appearances. She is currently in the process of completing a documentary based on “Waiting for Wings.” Heidi blends humor and her own real life experiences to touch her audience. She has spoken at more than 50 fundraising events throughout the country.
Heidi uses a special form of artwork to draw attention and raise money for people afflicted with cancer. She takes broken and unused jewelry from cancer survivors and those interested in the cause to create life forms that tell a story.
Waiting for Wings will be for sale at this year’s luncheon and Heidi will be available for a book signing after.
Heidi is available for phone interviews by contacting her at (707) 718-4141. For more information on Heidi and her work, visit her website at www.waitingforwings.com.
Luncheon Chair Theresa Nachman states: “In October, our local Soroptimists International of Redding (SIR) members become Breastimists. The members of SIR commit to doing what is both best for women and best for breasts by promoting awareness and prevention at our Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon. All proceeds from this annual fund raiser are used to fund mammograms for folks in our own community who could not otherwise afford them. So join the Breastimists, do what’s ‘best for breasts’ by attending this inspirational and important event.”
Tickets for this year’s luncheon are $30! Tickets can be purchased at Edward Jones Investments on Placer St., Tri-Counties Bank inside of Raley’s on Lake Blvd., and North Valley Bank on Churn Creek Road. You can also contact Theresa Nachman for the purchase of tickets to be left at will call at 246-8134.
All proceeds from this event go toward Soroptimist International of Redding’s Breast Cancer Fund to provide for women and men who would otherwise not be able to afford regular mammogram check-ups. In the last year alone, SIR has provided 60 mammograms at the cost of $13,000.
