Shasta High School students, Shasta Senior Nutrition Programs (SSNP), and the AARP are hosting a fundraiser titled, “The Really Senior Prom” for senior citizens throughout Shasta County.

“The Really Senior Prom” will take place on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at SSNP, located at 100 Mercy Oaks Drive in Redding. The evening will include hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and non-alcoholic beverages. DJ Vertigo will play tunes from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Requests and special dedications will be played throughout the night. Seniors will have a chance to re-live their high school prom and raise funds at the same time.

The cost is $5 per person and all proceeds will benefit the elderly in Shasta County. Funds raised will provide services to homebound and underserved seniors through SSNP’s Meals on Wheels and Brown Bag programs.

Meals on Wheels brings nutritious food, daily human contact and a sense of security to frail, elderly seniors in Shasta County. These are shut-in seniors who are often alone and no longer able to prepare meals but want to remain in the familiarity of their homes. The Shasta Senior Brown Bag Program provides nutritious food twice a month to underserved, low-income seniors. Often, the food provided by this program is the only food these seniors have.
