The Shasta-Cascade Farm and Food Coalition and Ingredients for Change, along with their many local partners and sponsors, announce the community screening of the 2009 critically acclaimed documentary “Food Inc.” followed by a panel discussion with local leaders and experts in their fields.

With obesity and diabetes becoming a major health concerns at all age levels, and access to healthy food on the decline while fast food is becoming the main source of nutrition for many, “Food Inc.” explores our food system for answers to these problems. More than one in four teenagers in Shasta County is overweight or obese and likely to have lifelong health problems unless we change the current system. These are not only health issues but economic issues. The rising cost of health care and health insurance will make this an extremely important issue in this decade. It is our intent to educate the community and get them involved in a discussion on practical solutions and meaningful action.

Our distinguished panel features local experts on agriculture and nutrition:

Gail Feenstra, PhD – UC Davis Food Systems Analyst, Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Project

Glenn Hawes – Shasta County Supervisor and Farmer

Gerry Long – Shasta County Organic Farmer and Certifier

Dan Marcum, PhD – Farm Advisor, UC Cooperative Extension

Dr. Ronald Reese – Medical Doctor and Land Use Advocate

Bob Williams – Retired UCLA Professor and Cattlemen’s Association
