Rollin’ and Tumblin’

Hey, that was a pretty serious tremor felt here in Redding on Saturday afternoon.

An earthquake of a magnitude 6.5 hit under the Pacific just off the Northern California coast near Eureka.

Lots of minor damage in Eureka and other towns near the coast. Full story here. The quake was felt from the San Francisco Bay Area to southern Oregon to Reno.

We felt the roll and shudder pretty strongly here on our hilltop neighborhood in southwest Redding. Certainly the biggest earthquake I’ve personally experienced. Kelly and I lived in San Francisco for a couple of years in the 1980s, but I was out of town during the one sizeable quake we had there. I covered the Loma Prieta quake for a newspaper, but arrived several hours after the event, and only felt the aftershocks.

Now I see what all the excitement’s about. I’m glad no injuries were reported.
