CRIME/INCIDENT: Bank Robbery / Officer Involved Shooting
LOCATION: US Bank – 37131 Main St., Burney, CA
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUSPECTS(S): PENDING (notification of next of kin).
SYNOPSIS: On 12/16/2009 at 1200 hrs, the deceased suspect involved in the bank robbery at US Bank was positively identified by his California drivers license and fingerprint comparison conducted by the Department of Justice. The release of the decedent’s name is being withheld until a next of kin can be located and notified of his death.
On 12/16/2009 at 1300 hrs, a post mortem examination was performed at the Shasta County Coroner’s Office by Dr. Susan Comfort (forensic pathologist). Members from the Redding Police Department, Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, Shasta County District Attorney’s Office, Department of Justice, Shasta County Coroner’s Office and Shasta County Grand Jury were present in accordance with the Shasta County Multi-agency Critical Incident Protocol.
The examination was completed and initial findings revealed that the decedent died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. Blood samples were also collected and have been sent out for toxicology testing. These results should be available in 4-6 weeks. The investigation into this incident is continuing by the Redding Police Department and the Shasta County Coroner’s Office.
