YAKS Down to Three

YAKS Koffee Shop , which has expanded to four locations in Redding, will soon downsize to three stores. YAKS will discontinue its Simpson University location at the end of this semester, said YAKS spokesperson Nancy Kerns.

A lack of sales revenue was cited as the reason for the closure.

"Simpson is an amazing university and will fill the newly decorated place with another cafe owner that is to be announced soon," Kerns said in an e-mail. "Our shops are full, people love YAKS, but the economy is brutal and has left people with little to spend and understandably cutting back in all areas of their spending. So too, we have to cut back in places that are not able to withstand the current recession. We are sad to let it go."

When I wrote about YAKS in July, I mentioned that the aesthetically pleasing Simpson location seemed to attract tons of students. So the closure is a bit surprising. But in the face of this recession, perhaps nothing should be surprising any more.

Aside from the Simpson locaiton, there are YAKS stores at 3274 Bechelli Lane; at 1715 South St. (downtown); and at 930 Hilltop Dr., Suite A (in the same complex as the new Chuck E Cheese). All the locations offer free wi-fi for customers.
