Here are some good corporate citizens: The employees of Pre-Employ.com are partnering with Toys From the Heart and Anderson-Cottonwood Christian Assistance to do a toy-and-food drive for the holidays.
Pre-Employ.com employees will ask for donations outside the Wal-Mart Superstore in Anderson next Saturday and the K-Mart in Redding on Sunday. They’ll be at the Wal-Mart again on Dec. 6, 13 and 20, and at the K-Mart again on Dec. 5.
Last year, the drive brought in 724 toys, which the workers spent hours wrapping. They also gathered 1,790 pounds of donated food, which was given to needy families by ACCA.
Employees also recently donated 70 slightly used coats to the Good News Rescue Mission.
Way to go!
- Should be beautiful weather this week in Redding and environs. A little breezy today, but mostly sunny, with highs in the 60s, through the workweek.
- Monday Morning QB: The Raiders won one! Not only that, they beat the Bengals, who sit atop the AFC North and remain top playoff contenders, despite the 20-17 loss. Maybe new QB Bruce Gradkowski will help the Raiders’ offense finally come together. Alex “Throws Interceptions at Pivotal Times” Smith and the 49ers fell to Green Bay, 30-24. My Steelers choked after Ben Roethlisberger got a concussion, and lost to lowly Kansas City in OT. Indianapolis and New Orleans both reached 10-0, though the Colts barely squeaked past the Ravens. Titans at Texans in a yawner tonight.
- Cool Science: Researchers are nearing the end of a 10-year search of frigid, deep-sea ocean waters, and they have found hundreds of new species, including such weird creatures as fish with barbed teeth and a gelatinous octopod called Dumbo because of its ear-like fins. Full story here.
- Here’s a nightmare scenario: A man in Belgium was thought to be in a coma for 23 years, but it turns out he was only paralyzed. His brain was working fine the whole time! Brain scans finally turned up the truth, and he can now communicate via computer. Full story here.
