Shasta Lake Garden Project holds a tea in the gardens of Quailhearst, the lovely English garden of founder Lynni Miller.

The tea will be held to encourage members of the community who enjoy the lovely gardens in downtown Shasta Lake to help continue the work of the organization that was started 13 years ago. Professional landscapers will be doing the muscle work from now on, and new members are needed to make the annual Garden Tour and English Tea an even bigger success. As many as 375 guests have attended in past years and it is eagerly awaited each spring by a large, faithful group. Other social and informational events will be planned at the behest of newer members.

The free informational tea planned for Oct. 10 will be a “sweet tea” — that is, desserts only. Betty Head’s famous English scones will also be served. Garden hats are required, with members supplying some hats at the gate. An inspirational poetry reading by Genny Seeley and a short talk by Georgia Haddon, president, are planned. Corsages and buttonières will be given to each guest. The afternoon tea is free; both men and women are invited.

Anyone with an interest in gardening, enjoys seeing the colorful gardens in the middle of Shasta Dam Boulevard and wants to have a hand in financing their upkeep may find this event may to be just their cup of tea! In these times, we all need an outlet for our energies and “fun” things to do that are stress relieving, beneficial to the community and to the environment.

Organizing and expanding the Garden Tour and Tea to finance the landscaping upkeep and any new garden projects will be the main focus of the organization’s directional change.

Please contact Georgia Haddon at 275-1209 or rosemary@shasta.com for information and driving directions. While the tea is free to all comers, reservations are required.
