Monica Havelka, a longtime Shasta High School teacher, died of brain cancer in July at the age of 53 (please see related story). One remarkable program she started is called “Mad Mudders.” Every Wednesday students are able to spin the ceramics wheel or build by hand after school. These pieces are glazed or paint-fired and sold at different events around our area. The proceeds are split – 50 percent going back to the club to cover expenses and 50 percent donated to charity. Students in the club vote on which charity/charities.
