Ah, we finally get a break. Highs in Redding are supposed to reach only 95 or so today, with even cooler days ahead, and no 100-plus days in the seven-day forecast. Thundershowers in the mountains. Might even see a stray shower in the valley in the days ahead.

- DVD We Watched: “The Dancer Upstairs,” starring Javier Bardem and directed by John Malkovich. A police detective who’s got a thing for his daughter’s ballet teacher is also tracking a mysterious terrorist. Quirky, interesting film, but use the subtitles when you watch it. The actors speak English, but their accents make it hard to track.
