Raymond Ghirardo and Megan Roberts of Ithaca, New York, are presenting a special video installation Aug. 1and Aug. 8 in the Old City Hall Jail as part of their monthlong residency sponsored by the the National Park Service at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
Incorporating such various technical ingredients as video projection, movement-incited sounds, and digital animation, the “Projected Landscapes” constructed by Ghirardo and Roberts are more like those of your dreams than any earthly locale. Yet Ghirardo and Roberts have been inspired by geographies as commonplace as dry creekbeds and familar as the American Southwest to sites as foreign as the bubbling mudpools of New Zealand and Australian termite mounds.
Ghirardo, a sculptor and media artist, has worked collaboratively with Roberts in sculpture, installation, video, and performance for the last 30 years. They have received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Experimental Television Center. Their work has been widely exhibited and screened nationally and internationally, most recently in Finland, Anchorage and Seattle.
The installation will be open for viewing on Aug. 1 from 11a.m. – 3 p.m. and during the 2nd Saturday Arthop Aug. 8 between 6-9 p.m.
Old City Hall Jail is at 1313 Market Street, Redding, CA.
Whiskeytown National Recreation Area will begin a partnership with The Shasta County Arts Council in 2010.
