By now I hope you’ve met the newest member of A News Cafe’s wonderful advertising family: Grocery Outlet bargain market. Welcome, Grocery Outlet!
I’ve shopped at the Redding Grocery Outlet (RGO, as hipsters call it) since my kids were babies, back when the super-discount store was on Highway 273. This place was a perfect fit for me, and it’s a perfect fit for the thousands (yes, thousands) of foodies/bargain hunters who pack this site around the clock. In fact, if I had a nickle for every time I’ve mentioned RGO’s name in a food story during my food-writing career, why, I’d be a very rich woman.
But I’d still bargain hunt. And no matter how much money I have I will always get a thrill to see that circled part of my GO receipt that tells me how much I’ve saved. This week I spent $65.86. I SAVED $91.58. (What can I say, except I bought a lot of wine bargains.)
(By the way, you do know that every ad on A News Cafe has something more behind it when you click, right? And you do know that if you refresh your page and the GO ad still isn’t there, that means the GO ad is off visiting other pages on A News Cafe, right?
Where were we? Oh, yes, the GO ad. So if you click on the GO ad, you’ll find coupons or store specials. If you click on those you’ll go to their website, where you’ll find contact and location information, plus photos of Ron Davis (senior and junior), the local father-son team who’ve operated the place (with Mary Davis and many others) for as long as I can remember.

Oh, also, If you go to their website you can enter your email address so you’ll receive bargain bulletins. And on other days, the GO’s click-through will take you to a four-color flier filled with the week’s specials, just for the Redding store. And did you know the last two Wednesdays of the month are senior discount days for those 60 and older? True.
And did you know that the GO now has a special cut-out coupon, just for A News Cafe shoppers? True. See for yourself when you click here for the coupon that takes $5 off your $50 grocery purchase.

For Grocery Outlet bargain store newbies, I thought I’d introduce you to the store by featuring examples of RGO deals I couldn’t live without earlier this week.
(Lovvvving this part of my job.)
My first item is this 1-liter bottle of De Cecco extra virgin “Solo Olive Italiane” olive oil, imported from Italy.
It’s made of only Italian olives – not some hodgepodge blend of olives from Turkey, China or wherever, topped off with soy oil, passed off as Italian olive oil (or Californian).
The DeCecco’s regular recommended retail price was $14.99. The GO sells it for $8.99.
I bought a bottle and tried it.
It’s full-bodied and has the grassy, slightly tangy taste I look for in olive oils when I need them to take center stage in a recipe.
OK, so I’d planned on showing you just one item, but what the heck, I couldn’t pass up this other deal:
Chevrin, Fresh Goat Cheese: 8-ounces of plain, 11-ounces of a four-pepper variety.
The recommended price is $5.99 and $6.99 for for these cheeses, respectively.
The GO sells them for $2.99 and $3.99, respectively. I’ve bought both cheeses before and love them. (Expiration date: May 22, which gives me lots of time to use it between now and then.)
One of my favorite things to do with goat cheese is to cut the logs into patties, press them down a bit, dredge them in seasoned bread crumbs, brown them in olive oil, and serve them warm with an arugula and citrus salad, or with sliced rustic bread for an appetizer.
That’s it for this week. (From now on look for this feature in Thursday’s food section.)
I’ve shown you my favorite GO deals, now you can show us yours.
Finally – and this so important – when you visit the Grocery Outlet bargain store, or when you support any of our terrific advertisers, please tell them you saw their ad on A News Cafe.
Save some stuff for me.
