Corner Booth: Ouch!

Headline of the Day

From the sports section of the local paper:

Willows shocks Cubs in the end

Now the Cubs can’t sit down comfortably. Har.

  • Speaking of pain, Mercy Medical Center is offering a free lecture on the Origin of Hip Pain on March 10. The talk and question-and-answer session will be led by Dr. Shawn Brubaker, a specialist in hip and knee replacement. The 6:30 p.m. event will be at Mercy’s lower level auditorium. • What I’m Reading: “Once Were Cops” by one of my favorite crime novelists, Ken Bruen. This fast-paced story, written in Bruen’s trademark staccato style, features an Irish cop who’s also a compulsive killer. Wowza.
  • DVD I Watched on the Treadmill: “On the Beach,” the classic 1959 film about survivors of a nuclear holocaust. It stars Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner, two great actors, but I found the pace slow and the script preachy.

Tips appreciated: Send news tidbits to steveb.anewscafe@gmail.com. Unless you’re Phil Fountain, in which case you should just sit quietly.
