Corner Booth: Tasty Treats

I see that they’ve selected a theme for the May 16 Redding Rodeo Parade. The theme, dreamed up by Leslie Stoner of Redding, is: “There’s a little cowboy in all of us.”

I picture a bunch of cowpokes sitting around the campfire, rubbing their bellies and saying, “Yep, Ol’ Shorty was mighty tasty.”

  • Speaking of cannibals, Congress still is chewing on the huge economic stimulus package. But when I read this headline in the local paper — Senate struggles on stimulus in nighttime session — all I could think was, “Well, that happens to all of us as we get older. Try closing your eyes and fantasizing about a different kind of stimulus.”
  • Sure is nice to finally get some rain here in Redding. It was even nicer that the rain paused long enough for me race outside with a ladder and unclog a gutter. A downspout was blocked by a chunk of landscaping bark. One has to wonder how bark gets up on the roof, then one remembers there are teen-aged boys in the household. It’s a wonder all the gutters aren’t clogged by Frisbees.
