Tuesday’s featured dancers: Kurt Starman & Sarah Leavers

Redding City Manager Kurt Starman is the novice dance partner of Sarah Leavers.

Q: How have you prepared for dance practice?

My strategy is to save my strength for the actual competition. Based on that rationale, I haven’t done a thing yet.

Q: We will each dance a disco and waltz number. Do you have any songs in mind?

I think that I will select something from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, but I don’t have a specific song in mind yet (maybe Staying Alive???). I don’t have a clue about the waltz number.

Q:  What is your previous dancing experience?

None … It should be quite an adventure!

Q: Do you have a recurring Dancing with the Stars – Shasta County Style nightmare?

No, I think that it will be a fun event.

Q: Which couple do you think will be the toughest to beat, and why?

Les Baugh. His dance partner is the choreographer for the event! Cheater!!!

Q: Any idea what you’ll wear for your dance numbers?

A black tuxedo with tails for the waltz. I am still looking for a pair of “Angel Flight” pants for the disco routine.

Q: Would you like to share a before-practice message for your professional dance partner?

Help!!!

Q: What’s your winning strategy?

I am going for the sympathy vote.

Q: Have you had any moments when you’ve had cold feet?

No, not yet …

Q. Anything else you’d like to say about this event?

To my fellow dancer and friend Les Baugh – You’re going down!

Sarah Leavers is the professional dance partner of Kurt Starman.

Q: Could you please tell a bit about yourself?

I am 15 and will be a junior at Foothill High School.

Obviously, my favorite thing to do is dance in my spare time.

My favorite types of dance are swing, ballet, modern and theatre dance (Broadway styles).

My favorite color is pink, and currently I am just enjoying my summer!

Q: What’s your dance experience?

I started dancing when I was 3 and have continued now for 12 years.

I currently dance at the Redding Dance Centre.

I have been away to two summer intensives for ballet, and have participated in Club Cougar for the past two years, basically I never stop.

Q: Do you have a recurring Dancing with the Stars nightmare?

Haha, I do not have a recurring nightmare, but once the show nears I’m sure I will!

Q: What couple do you think will be the toughest to beat, and why?

I honestly don’t know who will be the hardest couple to beat.

I think we will all bring something new to the stage, and that the audience will have a hard time voting!

Q: What’s your plan to help your partner dance well?

I just plan to teach him the basic steps first, listen to the music and then go slowly from there.

Q: What advice do you have for your partner, especially since she might have limited dance experience?

 Just have fun!

Q: Anything else you’d like to say?

Lastly, I am extremely excited to get started with you all!
