So many reasons, so many days

Bruce and I have a line we try to say to each other at least once a day: “And that’s the reason I love you today.”

Regarding my relationship with Food for Thought, I have a million reasons why I love it. But the community forums section is the reason I love our “We” site today.

There’s much to love about the forums.

1. There’s something there for everyone. For example, a sample of the General Discussion thread includes a wild and crazy mix of topics that includes: solar panels, favorite charities, backyard burn piles, jokes and drunk drivers. And there’s a fascinating piece about scientists growing a heart in a lab.

At the moment, “What’s on your mind?” remains one of the most popular threads within this General Discussion forum, with 743 views.

Look at me, tossing around my newly learned lingo. Turns out “forums” are what I’d call categories (like general discussion, automotive, dining, cooking, etc.), and “threads” are what I might have considered subcategories (like solar panels, burn piles, etc). Who knew? Not I.

2. I don’t know whether you’ve noticed, but the “National Coverage of the Local Area” forum regularly features breaking news that’s relevant to our community, sometimes days before Redding’s newspaper.

Here’s an excerpt of one posted today:

SACRAMENTO, CA — A State Assembly member from San Francisco is trying to put limits on those traveling shows that feature real human bodies that have been preserved with silicone. The I-Team first investigated this burgeoning industry in 2005.Shows featuring preserved human bodies and various parts are big business. Premier Exhibitions reports $30 million dollars in profits last year from the traveling show called “Bodies Revealed,” now in Sacramento. However, San Francisco Asemblywoman Fiona Ma has serious questions about all body shows.Of course, this is relevant to the north state because Turtle Bay has scheduled a “Bodies Revealed” exhibit at its museum. (Yesterday’s Record Searchlight story about the upcoming exhibit didn’t mention Assemblywoman Fiona Ma.)   Another interesting example includes a story about Van Vacter Products, a division of Lassen Scientific, Inc., a Redding medical product development company recognized for creating ergonomic kitchen tools for people with injuries or disabilities.

3. The bulletin board, its forums, threads and posts are generating thousands of hits every day. The beauty is that anyone can read this section, and registered users can post replies on already existing forums, or can start your own thread about almost anything you wish.

The forums are the reason today I love Food for Thought.

So many reasons remain. So many days left to explore them.
