Another crazy-busy weekend coming up throughout Northern California, but let’s focus on Red Bluff, where the Tehama District Fair opens today and runs through Sunday. All the usual carnival-and-livestock fun, plus a demolition derby and bull riders and a concert by James Otto and Chad Bushnell. Yee-hah!
The Tehama District Fair has a nice website with all the times and prices and special events. Click here.
Here in Redding, we’ve got Air Show 2009 at Redding Municipal Airport and the 45th Annual Turtle Bay Art and Craft Fair in Caldwell Park, both running Saturday and Sunday. Top that off with the Ducky Derby drop of 50,000 rubber duckies into the Sacramento River at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and the whole weekend is a Shutterbug’s Delight.
Check our Day and Night section for more great events this weekend.
- They Fired All the Copy Editors, Part XXXI: In the local newspaper’s weekend guide, I was amused by an item about Riverfront Playhouse’s performances of “You Can’t Take it With You.” The sentence reads like this: “The Pulitzer prize-winning comedic play will be performed in three acts by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.” Seeing as how Kaufman and Hart were the guys who wrote the play (and how they both died in 1961), I’d say Riverfront Playhouse could charge more than $15 a ticket.
- Here’s a cool deal: Up in Weed, the Siskiyou County Snow Dogs are looking for volunteers to help with the January sled dog races, and they’d like many of the volunteers to know CPR and first aid. So they’re offering a CPR/first aid class for $45 on Oct. 3. The 36 students will come away with two-year certifications. For more info, click here.
- Halloween may seem a long way off, but those who want the best costumes shop early. The People of Progress Super Thrift Store at 1242 Center St. has opened a “crypt” with more than 700 costumes and lots of accessories. For more info, click here.
