FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RE: Cartoonist’s statement of intent
Former and future write-in candidate for Redding City Council, Phil “Philbert” Fountain, has issued several statements, the most coherent of which is as follows:
It has been brought to my attention that there may be some confusion concerning recent recall efforts. If I could recall them I’m sure I could set the record straight, but since I can’t recall (it costs too much) I just want you to know that the organization People For Responsible Government is in no way affiliated with the group, People For Responsible Government. I know the names of these two organizations are similar, or if my training as a teacher is worth the plug nickel I paid for the credentials, the names may indeed be identical. Be that as it may, it is quite clear that they are neither. The same or identical, that is. It’s simple quantum physics. One is not the other though they both may be the same. On the other hand (“other” being one of an infinite numberof possibilities) my organization, People Not Responsible For Government, takes issue with the agenda of the other two (or three, I forget now) organisms.
We, the PNRFG, are not interested in the recall efforts of one or the other of these wacko “groups” (or cells, if my biology degree holds water). In fact, on the contrary, we believe we are not served well by any recall efforts. We believe a happy citizenry is a citizenry who can’t recall what any or all government entities did yesterday. What’s the point? If you recall, you’re just setting yourself up for more disappointment. Better to just forget the whole thing. That’s what I always tell my class in the valley (yes, they’re a low class).
So, it is with this sentiment (or sediment for those of you, like me, who have a degree in geology) that I toss my hat, coat, waistcoat, pantaloons and dainties into the ring for the upcoming council race. A race I’m well prepared for as I am already unencumbered by clothing or anything else that could slow me down. Vote for a fellow who can draw his own conclusions, vote for a cartoonist.
A News Cafe cartoonist, Phil “Philbert” Fountain, has declared his intent to file papers (take note, City Clerk!) in order to run as a write-in candidate for a seat on Redding’s City Council in 2010. He has garnered the support of the Nat’l Surrealist Party and may employ a few surprise “guest candidates” during the course of the coming campoon to spell him as he tires easily these days.
