The Redding Police Department gave out its annual awards this week, recognizing heroic feats and longtime service by its officers.
Levi Solada was named Officer of the Year, Sgt. Tracy Beaupre was named Supervisor of the Year and Les James is Investigator of the Year. Services Employee of the Year is Chris Fountain. Community Service Officer of the Year is Lisa Isner.
Meritorious conduct awards were given to a slew of officers, including three — Officers Edward Gilmette, Bounpon Kongkeoviman and Andrew Wahlund — who were recognized for rescuing a woman from the Sacramento River under dangerous conditions. Other award winners included Beaupre, volunteers Helen Klingler and Shirley Wood, Officer Samuel Llamas, Officer Charlie Daubs, Sgt. Mike Wood, Sgt. Mike Thomas, Sgt. Casey Bokavich and Capt. Damon Minor.
Special Agent John Harrison of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation was recognized for help he has given the department’s anti-gang task force and the probation/parole unit.

And now for a prize related to other heroes, those who rescue lost and abandoned pets.
We’ve got two tickets to the 3rd Annual FurBall, and we’re giving them away TODAY. The FurBall is a benefit for Another Chance Animal Welfare League and it should be lots of fun. There will be comedy performances by Riverfront Playhouse actors and music by Brown Shoe Trio. The event is at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at the WIn-River Event Center, and the tickets are worth $35 each.
