On November 8, 2012 at about 5:28 PM Officers from the Redding Police responded to Sears at 900 Dana Dr. on a report of a violent crazed white male adult carrying a knife and threatening people in the area.
The suspect was later identified as David Michael Macleod, age 20 a transient of Redding. Craig Kimball, 57 of Redding was sitting in his truck in the parking lot next to Sears, when he was approached by Macleod who was carrying a crow bar and a knife. Macleod held the crow bar up in a threatening manner and threatened to kill Mr. Kimball. Mr. Kimball called police and locked himself in his truck. While police responded Macleod fled the area.
At about 5:47 PM Redding Police Officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart in the 1300 Blk of Dana Dr.
Numerous 911 calls were reporting a crazed white male adult carrying a knife, threatening people and acting irrationally. Wal-Mart store manager Chris Schooner age 42 of Redding reported that Macleod stole a cellular phone from Wal-Mart and threatened Wal-Mart employees with a knife. An officer located Macleod as he exited Wal-Mart.
Macleod was holding a knife in a threatening manner and began walking toward the lone officer and refused verbal commands to stop and drop the knife. The officer deployed both his handgun and taser.
Due to the amount of bystanders in the area, the officer used the taser on Macleod. The taser had an immediate effect on Macleod and forced him to the ground where Macleod was arrested without further incident or injury. Night squad detectives assisted in this investigation. Macleod was booked into Shasta
County Jail on charges of Robbery (211 PC), Burglary (459 PC), and several counts of brandishing the knife at people in a threatening manner (417 (a)(3) PC).
