Highlighting the 22nd annual Mushroom Festival in McCloud CA this year will be the Summer Schappell Band, featuring that talented little girl from Lakehead who represented Shasta County very well nationally. After taking a break from the music business to help raise her new family, she’s back and will be performing her fiery brand of progressive and classic country hits on Saturday May 23, from 1-4pm.
Held every Memorial Day weekend, the McCloud Mushroom, Music & Wine Festival celebrates the proliferation of wild mushroom hunting that occurs every spring in and around McCloud CA. With over 100 artisan, craft, and food vendors, McCloud draws more than 14,000 people for this two-day event. For the best in live music, wine tasting, mushroom workshops, fungi foraging forays, and much more at the foot of majestic Mount Shasta!
Born and raised in Shasta County, Summer has spent her entire teenage and early adulthood singing country music. She started recording in Nashville at 14 and has opened for famous Country Acts including: LeAnn Rimes, Josh Turner, Mark Chesnutt, Little Big Town, Mackenzie Carpenter, Matt Stell, and more.
Summer appeared as a finalist on the national television show, The Voice, going three rounds and getting selected by Grammy artist Gwen Stefani for mentoring.
Appearing with Summer is another Nashville recording artist and fiddle master, Sid Walker. Sid has played over 15 times at the historic Grand Ol’ Opry with hit makers like Kevin Sharp, Rhett Atkins, Louis Mandrell, Kevin Denny, Mel McDaniel, Craig Morgan, and Marty Brown to name but a few. The backbone of her five-man band of local pros includes, Jerry Standridge on guitar, Scott Ciucci on drums, and bassist Alan Phillips.
Summer is back in the saddle as she says, “…with a passion covering for artists in music who say it like it is, no holds barred.” Playing covers from artists like Kacey Musgraves, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and Fleetwood Mac, she’s currently back in the studio working on some original music to increase her presence as a reemerging artist.
Sponsored by the McCloud Chamber of Commerce, the McCloud Mushroom, Music, and Wine Festival is free to the public.
