This morning a volunteer poll worker called the Elections Department to let staff know the worker’s car had been broken into. Some election supplies for Tuesday were stored in a vehicle at the time of the break-in. The volunteer followed emergency procedures outlined in the departments’ training materials provided to poll workers.
Redding Police responded this morning to the volunteer’s home to take a police report. The elections department has since learned that all of the supplies that were stolen were retrieved by RPD officers, and a concerned citizen in the neighborhood.
The Elections Department expressed sincere appreciation and thanks to law enforcement and the citizen who stepped forward to assist.
The volunteer brought all supplies back to the Elections Department today and elections officials were able to verify by examining the container and its seals that the blank ballots required for Tuesday’s election were not compromised.
Voters who have voted ballots to return are encouraged to deliver them today to the Elections Department or to an official drop box. Polling places will be available tomorrow. Locations are posted on the Elections Department website at ShastaVotes.org.
Post-election audits will begin with the hand tally of a portion of results on Thursday, February 3, 2022 as is done in all Shasta County elections. In addition, elections staff will conduct a risk liming audit once all results are tabulated. Regulations for risk liming audits can be found at this link: https://www.sos.ca.gov/administration/regulations/current-regulations/elections/risk-limiting-audits.
More information is available on ShastaVotes.org, about candidates, how to vote in a recall ballot, locations of drop boxes, and available polling places. A digital copy of the voter information guide mailed to each voter is available online: https://www.elections.co.shasta.ca.us/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/VIG-FINAL.pdf.
As a reminder, only voters who live within the boundaries of Supervisorial District 2 adopted in 2011 are eligible to vote in this recall election. Both versions of the boundary maps can be found at https://maps.co.shasta.ca.us/portal/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=611cf288cf954c12be95ff3797b1b783.
