CURRENT SITUATION
• We had 1 new case on Tuesday. She is a woman in her 20s, and her case is still under investigation so no further information is available.
• Vitalant is urging healthy people to donate blood, platelets or convalescent plasma for patients in need. Donations are being tested for COVID-19 antibodies to identify donors who might be eligible to give convalescent plasma. Convalescent plasma contains antibodies that could be used to treat patients with an active, severe COVID-19 case to give them an extra boost to fight their illness. Demand for convalescent plasma is quickly growing and it’s been shown to help patients recover in some cases. People who have recovered from COVID-19 can donate plasma by visiting vitalant.org/COVIDFree or calling 866-CV-PLSMA (866-287-5762).
• The California Department of Public Health has released guidance for in-person supervision of cohorts of children or youth in educational and childcare settings. A cohort is a stable group of no more than 14 youth and no more than two supervising adults, where the adults and children stay together for all activities and avoid contact with people outside of their group in the setting. The guidance makes cohorting practices consistent and outlines the required health and safety practices needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 across settings, such as small-group learning for students with special needs and community-based or schoolbased “hubs” for distance learning and childcare.
