Tell Me a Story

Storytellers are set to delight children of all ages on Thursday evening at Turtle Bay Exploration Park in Redding.

P.J. “Pete” Petersen, a local author who’s published 24 books, and John and Leah Harper will recount magical, humorous stories based on childhood memories.

“Stories for the Young at Heart” starts at 7 p.m. at the visitor center theater. Tickets are $3 for Turtle Bay members, $5 for nonmembers and $1 for children.

  • To the Idiots at KCVU or FOX-TV Who Decided to Televise Locally the Vikings Stomping on the Hapless Lions Rather Than Show Pittsburgh and Cincinnati, Two 6-2 Teams, Battle It Out for the Lead in the AFC North: May the bluebird of happiness poop in your oatmeal.
  • Monday Morning QB: The showdown between Indianapolis and New England turned out to be worth all the hype, as the Colts win 35-34 at the last second to remain unbeaten. The Broncos fell to the Redskins (?!?). And the Raiders can’t even beat the lowly Chiefs.
  • The Cannabis Cafe, apparently the first of its kind in the U.S., has opened in Portland, OR. Medicinal marijuana users can dine and smoke together at the private club. Full story here.
  • An Alert Reader sends word that in The Netherlands, the government has approved a plan to tax miles driven rather than car ownership. The plan, which would rely on GPS technology, is aimed at relieving traffic congestion. Full story here.
  • DVD I Watched on the Dreadmill: “Z,” the great political thriller by Costa-Gavras. Somehow, I’d never seen this influential 1969 movie, which stars Yves Montand and a slew of other familiar faces.
