Quick ANC Family Huddle: Doni Needs Your Input

So, dear ANC family, I know you’re busy, but I need to run something by you regarding our Carr Fire Scholarship fundraiser.

Maybe you can guess what I’m wondering, but in light of the new Camp Fire, which wasn’t even a thing when we created our ANC scholarship fundraiser, how do you all feel about opening up the scholarship fund to Camp Fire students, too?

Our goal was to raise $4000 in this first fundraiser to give $1000 each to four students. What are your thoughts about splitting it; 2 Carr Fire scholarships and 2 Camp Fire scholarships?

ANC’s readership is broad, and includes a great number of Butte County subscribers. And during times like this, disasters that cause entire communities to run for our lives, we’re especially connected.

I realize that here in Shasta County, we are still healing from the Carr Fire. But fire is the great equalizer, and knows no county lines, and is no respecter of whether a hospital or a home or church or a family in a car fleeing the fire is in its path.

Right now, even as we heal, even as our Shasta County people with loss of life, property, jobs, animals and homes, our Butte County brothers and sisters need us.

The Camp Fire.

So that’s why I submit this idea of splitting the scholarship funds.

Who knows; maybe we’ll greatly exceed our goal in this year’s auction and will have even more to give than we dreamed.

By the way, for those of you – Darcie Gore and others – who inquired about sending money to the fundraiser to an account, rather than participating in the auction, the wheels are in motion and everything should be set up and ready to receive donations by Tuesday (because Monday is Veterans Day). I won’t bore you with the frustrating details of the three accounts opened for us over three days, and even how a wonderful US Bank banker came to my home after hours for me to sign papers for the last – real account – but it’s been a bit of a fiasco. But come Tuesday, we’re good to go. We can keep that account open throughout the year for other donations, and gear up for next year’s auction, which we’re already planning. I’m hearing from people who are already asking to donate next year.

We’re an online family here, and I welcome your suggestions. Thank you!

Please stay safe, everyone. Remember that if you’re in an area where there is a whiff of smoke, and an orange glow on the horizon, do not just stand and watch and assume it won’t reach you. Dot wait for official evacuation orders. Let your gut, and the hair on your arms and back of your neck, be your guide. Pack up and seek shelter with family or friends far away from the fire. If it proves a false alarm, you’ve had a chance to bond with some fellow human beings.

Love, Doni
