Dean Germano Joins McConnell Foundation Board

Dean Germano

Dean Germano joins The McConnell Foundation Board as its newest director, succeeding Bill Cox who is retiring after 12 years of service.

Dean, who recently retired as CEO of Shasta Community Health, had served in that capacity since 1992. His career focused on providing access to quality health care, including dental and mental health services. He has been a respected “rural” voice statewide. During his years in healthcare management, Dean was deeply involved in health-related workforce issues, primary care, and the creation of clinics to provide health care services to the more than one quarter of Shasta County’s population lacking access to affordable health care. Dean brings added value to The McConnell Foundation because of his understanding of philanthropy attributable to his decade of elected service on the California Endowment Board.

“With his knowledge and experience, Dean will bring passion, insight, and healthcare expertise to the Foundation – a discipline we have not previously had represented on the Board,” said Eva Jimenez, McConnell board chair.

Dean was born in New York City and raised in Canada. His wife, Carol, is part of a fifth-generation ranching family from Red Bluff. They have made their home in Redding for more than 30 years, and they have three grown children, and one grandson.

Dean will serve with board members Eva Jimenez, Pamela Newman, John Mancasola, and Lee Salter. McConnell’s mission is to help build better communities through philanthropy, serving Modoc, Siskiyou, Shasta, Trinity and Tehama counties, and the countries of Laos and Nepal.
