In 2007, several recent MFA graduates from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts formed Perceptual Painters, a group of like-minded painters, and later artists of similar sensibilities and working methods. Fifteen years after the formation of the group, these artists now live in diverse places across the country, from Texas to Maine, from New Orleans to Philadelphia.
Artists in the group and the exhibition represents perceived ‘realities’ in diverse ways. Some paint exclusively from life, or from observation, others combine perception with memory or invention. The common threads are a commitment to observation and working from life, and an acknowledgement that how one sees or ‘perceives’ the world is subjective. Subjects range from the figure, to landscape, to still-life.
Shasta College Art Gallery is open Monday / Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday / Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.. For additional information, please contact Andrew Patterson, apatterson@shastacollege.edu.
